Spring gives you mild temperatures before the real heat sets in, soft natural light, and if you time it right, bluebonnets in full bloom. It’s also one of the more flexible windows on the calendar, before SXSW and prom season start eating up every weekend.

What to Think About Before You Book Spring Senior Photos

A few practical things worth planning around are flowers, weather, and popularity.

  • Bluebonnet season usually peaks in late March through April, so if that’s part of your vision, book early enough to catch it.
  • Spring weather in Austin can swing from a chilly morning to a warm afternoon in the same day, so we’ll talk through outfit layers when we plan your session.
  • And because spring is a popular window, sessions do fill up, so reaching out a few months ahead gives you the most flexibility on dates and locations.

Spring Senior Photos FAQ

Spring in Central Texas unfolds in layers. While the weather starts warming in March, peak green fields and wildflowers typically show up from late March through April, sometimes stretching into early May depending on rainfall. If you’re hoping for bold color, it’s better to reach out early to check the bloom forecast.

I’d recommend reaching out at least a few months ahead, especially if you have a specific location or date in mind. Spring fills up quickly once bluebonnet season hits.

We’ll keep an eye on the forecast together and reschedule if needed. Texas spring weather can be unpredictable, so I always build in some flexibility. Seniors have 3 months of availability to reschedule if we’re rained out.

Typically late March into April, though it shifts a little year to year depending on rainfall. If bluebonnets are on your must-have list, let’s plan your session around that window

Layers are your friend here. Mornings can start cool and warm up fast, so bring a light jacket or cardigan you can shed partway through the session. I also suggest pastel colors and cream to match the color of the light during this season.

Yes! Here are the tips for bringing your pet along for your senior photos no matter what season!

I love different weather conditions to be honest and wind can be very dramatic if done right. I think there are certain things that make it better like flowy dresses, longer hair, scarves, and other aspects that show the movement, but I know wind isn’t ideal for most clients and most people worry about their hair. To balance this, I try to select locations where we can have both. For example, I like to find areas that are either lower where the wind doesn’t really bother us or where it’s blocked by buildings, but I also suggest taking some in the wind!

This depends on you and what’s most important to you! I have a go to list for different locations with flowers or just spring vibes with beautiful light or even animals like ducks.
