Themed Photography Sessions in Austin

Horror, Gothic, Character & Cosplay Pictures

Step into a session that’s nothing like a traditional photoshoot. Whether you’re drawn to the eerie stillness of horror or bringing a favorite character fully to life, these sessions are built around you and your interests. Based in Austin, I shoot on location wherever best fits your theme, sometimes right in the city and other times well outside it. I focus on creating images using practical effects not ai generated effects.

Wondering if a Themed photo session is for you?

You’re in the Right Place If…

  • You put real time and effort into your costume or story.
  • You have a character or reference in mind.
  • You want photos that feel cinematic like they’re stills from your personal movie versus a person wearing a costume!

As a thematic and conceptual photographer in Austin, I work with families, cosplayers, kids and adults to help them not only create the vision but capture it.

Themed Photos Tell A Story

Why I Shoot Themed Sessions

My fondest childhood memories revolve around books and trips to our local library. It was the perfect escape from reality, rereading the same stories until I knew them better than my own. Story has always been something I find joy in, and creating a story through images is just another way I get to chase that same feeling. Who hasn’t dreamed of far-off places, or of becoming someone else entirely? Themed sessions might look like kid stuff on the surface, but underneath, they’re identity and play for adults, the same creativity you never really stopped wanting, where the photoshoot is the vessel that brings it to life.

Frequently Asked Questions

A themed session is different from a typical portrait session. I build the whole thing around a specific story, aesthetic, or a character you want to bring to life. That means more intentional locations, styling, and direction, and it results in images that feel more like a scene from a movie than a snapshot.

Hair and makeup isn’t included in the session. Most clients either do their own or bring in an artist they trust. However I do send out info on hair and makeup artists that I have used before. If your look calls for special effects makeup, open wounds, aging, creature work, just flag it ahead of time so we can discuss logistics.

You bring the wardrobe, and I’ll help capture it. After you book the session, we go over a lot of these details together for what you’re wanting and I may be able to offer props, or help think through how something will photograph, or offer other practical solutions for styling.

I prefer practical effects like makeup, real props, fake blood, etc. I can most definitely help come up with what the practical effects could be to create the image you want, please don’t hesitate to reach out and ask!

It depends on the location, but I generally suggest not to so we don’t have a concern if in a public location.

I highly recommend it! It’s so much fun to do a themed photo session with a group of your friends or family and will likely be full of fun memories if you’re in character.

It really comes down to the style of the shoot we’re doing. As you can see from some of the portfolio images, the horror images are more gritty and the princess images are more soft and ethereal. If you have a specific editing style you’re wanting let me know, but we will definitely discuss it when we start building our inspo board.

Yes, they can, but all minors should be accompanied by an adult.

Yes! Of course there are factors being that I am a mom with two kids in school, but I do suggest traveling for the right location if there isn’t one we can find locally.
