Senior Photo Location Guide: Blunn Creek Greenbelt in Austin
Looking for a nature-filled spot right in the heart of Austin? Blunn Creek is a hidden gem that brings all the outdoor vibes like a creek, rocks, tall grass, trees, without having to leave the city. It’s quiet, it feels tucked away, and it’s completely free to shoot at. This is one of my favorite spots for seniors who love the outdoors and want something that feels peaceful, natural, and unique.

Why Seniors Love Blunn Creek
Blunn Creek is perfect for seniors who:
- Love a laid-back, earthy vibe
- Want to splash around or walk barefoot through the creek
- Are into natural textures like rocks, tall grass, and trees
- Don’t mind a little adventure (and maybe getting their feet wet) nature
From a Photographer’s Perspective
I love photographing at Blunn Creek because it feels like a little adventure every time. It’s rarely crowded, and it gives seniors a chance to relax, explore, and just be themselves.
A few things to keep in mind:
- There’s a dog park nearby, so we may see some furry visitors.
- Free residential parking is available along the street.
- Since there’s water, I always suggest bringing a towel if we plan to shoot in the creek.
- It’s downtown, but you truly wouldn’t know it once you’re in the trees.

Where We’ll Shoot at Blunn Creek
- The open field with tall grass
- Right in the creek… ankles in the water
- On and around the rock formations
- Near the little footbridge
Best time to shoot here
Golden hour (1–2 hours before sunset) is the best here… the light filters beautifully through the trees and bounces off the water. Because it’s all outdoors, weather does matter. If it’s been rainy, the water may be higher or the rocks slippery. But if you’re up for a little spontaneity, it can make for incredible photos. My favorite time of year is fall because the colors are gorgeous here!
Pro Tip:
Double-check that you’re headed to the East Side Dr location, not the preserve. I always send the address just to be safe.
Planning Your Senior Session Here – What to know
There’s no website or official contact… this is just a public space I’ve scouted and used often. But here’s what you’ll need to know:
- Location: 1901 East Side Dr, Austin, TX 78704
- Type: Public park
- Indoor/Outdoor: All outdoor
- Parking: Free residential street parking
- Permit/Fees: None! It’s a free space
- Changing space: I bring a pop-up tent for quick outfit changes
- Important: Make sure you use the correct address! There’s also a Blunn Creek Nature Preserve at a different location (1200 St Edwards Dr) — not the same spot.
What to wear for your senior portrait session at the Blunn Creek location
When choosing your wardrobe, I suggest selecting neutral colors and styles that complement the natural colors found in nature. This will help you stand out and create a more dynamic look in your photos.
