Senior Photo Location Guide: Austin Colony Colorado River Park

Getting Senior Photos at Austin Colony Colorado River Park

If you’re looking for a senior photo location with wild, natural beauty and uninterrupted river views, Austin Colony Colorado River Park is a hidden treasure. Unlike many river spots in Austin, this section feels completely untouched with no houses, no buildings in the background, and often very few people around. It’s perfect for seniors who want their portraits to feel peaceful, adventurous, and totally nature-focused.

Why Seniors Love Austin Colony Colorado River Park

This spot is ideal for seniors who:

  • Love outdoor adventure and scenic views
  • Want a private, peaceful atmosphere
  • Prefer lush greenery and wide-open horizons over city backdrops

It’s probably not the best fit for seniors wanting:

  • An urban or downtown vibe
  • Architectural backdrops or street art

Location Highlights

Location: 2900 Wickham Ln, Austin, TX 78725
Type: Outdoor riverside park
Cost: Free
Vibe: Quiet overlook, riverside trails, rustic nature
Indoor/Outdoor: Outdoor
Best For: Seniors who love nature and want a timeless, open-air look

Best Photo Spots at the Park

  • Main overlook: Elevated views of the Colorado River with no buildings in sight. Perfect for wide, cinematic senior photos.
  • Trail walk: Gentle, winding paths framed by trees and tall grass. Great for relaxed, walking portraits.
  • Park areas: Lots of other open park spaces with trees, benches, and Colorado river access.

💡 Photographer Tip: Start near the river and work your way back up the trail. The trail goes down further from the high point and you’d rather be walking up the path with plenty of light, and you’ll end with golden tones at the overlook.

Timing & Lighting

If you want to be closer down to the water, you’ll definitely want to start heading down the trail earlier in your session. In the past, I’ve found it can get dimmer than expected toward sunset, so it’s worth scouting ahead for the season and time of year.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Safety: No guardrails so be mindful near the overlook. Also, bring bug spray!
  • Facilities: No public bathrooms (I bring a pop-up tent for outfit changes).
  • Parking: Residential street parking only. Always lock your car and hide valuables at public parks.
  • Crowds: Usually pretty quiet and much less traffic compared to other Austin river spots.
