A First Family Session at Stoney Creek Park
The Ullrichs came out to Stoney Creek Park for their very first mini session as a family — Grethe, Ryan, and five-month-old Maeve, who had been on the outside for exactly long enough to have opinions about strangers. It was golden hour, the light was doing everything right, and Maeve was not particularly interested in performing, which is totally fine with me.
When Babies Have Other Plans
Grethe had mentioned that Maeve is smiley but takes a little time with new people, and that held true. She never quite got smiley with me and I tried lots of tricks, which is about as predictable as anything at five months old. But here’s the thing about babies that age… you don’t need them to perform. You just need them to exist, and the people holding them to love them out loud.
What a First Session Looks Like
This was new territory for all three of them, and that actually works in your favor at a mini session. There’s no pressure to recreate something from before or top a previous year. You just show up and see what you get. We got close-ups, we got Maeve lifted in the air catching the golden hour light, and we got a record of exactly who this little family was at five months in and it was beautiful.
