Summer reading was one of my favorite things about being a kid. I grew up in a rural town with a library that was only open two or three days a week with odd hours and a limited selection… and I still looked forward to it every single summer!
Now I’m raising kids in Austin, where we have 21 public library branches open almost every day, and I wanted to make something that captured that same feeling. Something that made the library feel like an event.
So I made a free printable Austin Library Passport for kids to help capture the fun of visiting the library during summer break!
What’s the Austin Library Passport?
It’s a printable booklet with a circle for each of Austin’s 21 library branches. Kids color in a circle every time they visit that branch. Work through all 21 and the passport is complete!
It turns ordinary library trips into something with a little more momentum… a reason to try a branch you’ve never been to, to keep going, to see what the next one looks like. Each branch has its own vibe anyway, so there’s actually something new to discover.
It’s free. It’s screen-free. And it gives kids something to work toward beyond just the book pile you’ll definitely still come home with.
How to Use It This Summer
Print it out, grab your library cards, and start wherever is closest! Not sure how to put it together? Don’t worry, the instructions are included right inside the download.
