Texas has its moments and most of my favorite ones are nature related. The thing I love about it the most is the variety within the state. When I suggested this location as our next camping destination to my family, I got a variety of responses. One sideways incredulous glance from my husband, one annoyed crossed arm growl from my daughter, and one excited yip from my son who jumped up and ran to his room to start packing. The kids didn’t hear anything besides camping, but my husband was definitely questioning my sanity choosing a location near Odessa. He asked “Is there anything out there?” To which I had to show him the videos I had found online. At this point, he knows to just say yes, but I couldn’t fault him for checking. If you’ve lived in Texas long enough, you have kind of become familiar with all the different areas because it takes freaking forever to drive through this state and this particular area isn’t known for much unless you’re in the oil and gas industry.
It’s been over a year since our trip, and having finished editing the video and gathering all the images, both of the kids said they’d want to go back which I consider a win. The only description I can use to try to paint a picture is otherworldly. The views were beautiful with the shocking blue of the sky and contrast of the bright sand dunes. We went during spring break and we were prepared for cooler temps, but we were not prepared for the wind. Our tent was struggling and the type of tent we had didn’t really hold up well so we ended up sleeping in the van which was it’s own type of adventure with two kids, two adults, and a big dog.
