If you visited HOPE Outdoor Gallery years ago on Baylor Street, the current location will feel different and, for better or worse, more intentional. HOPE stands for Helping Other People Everywhere.

The original space was raw, layered, and constantly changing. The new gallery builds on that creative spirit, but with more room to explore, improved accessibility, and space designed to last. It still invites curiosity and expression just in a setting that works better for families visiting today.

This new space brings pieces of the old HOPE Outdoor Gallery in as well. There’s an old piece of a wall that you can see still has layers upon layers of spray paint. This location is a great option when you want something different from the usual playground or museum visit.

HOPE Outdoor Gallery is an open-air space covered in layers of colorful murals, graffiti-style artwork, and ever-changing designs.

What Makes HOPE Outdoor Gallery Fun for Families

How many places can you go and spray paint on walls? I mean without repercussions… I’ll wait and while you start looking up the legalities of that. While I wait… I want to also note that there are places you can’t spray here. There’s commissioned art work walls which are off limits, but make great photo backdrops. You’ll definitely be able to tell because these areas are completely untouched.

Tips for Visiting HOPE Outdoor Gallery With Kids

A few things that help the visit go smoothly:

Wear shoes and clothing you can get dirty
Wear protective eyewear and a mask if you’re sensitive to fumes (even though it’s outside it can sometimes smell strong)

The indoor event space includes tables, chairs, a coffee bar, and snacks.

The Art Shop

If you don’t want to bring your own spray paint, you can purchase cans here! They also have different kinds of tips and roller brushes. Cans of paint were around $8 and while it’s a little bit on the pricey side, the quality of the paint was pretty impressive. Plus all sales help support the HOPE Gallery so you feel better about it.

What My Kids Loved The Most At HOPE Gallery

Drumroll… it was the bathrooms lol. They loved getting to spray paint in the bathroom and the walls outside the bathroom. Notice the 6’s and 7’s lol.

A Creative Space That’s keeping Austin weird

HOPE Outdoor Gallery is doing a great job of keeping Austin “weird” in the best way… creative, expressive, and a little rough around the edges. I can’t wait to see how the expand further. Their website talks about offering workshops, private events, but honestly, it just seems like a really cool place to hang with friends and family.
