Meet the Green Family

I’m excited to share the Green family’s story, one that’s full of love, laughter, and all the beautiful chaos that comes with having three young daughters. Meet Georgia, Johnnie, and Sloane each with their own sparkling personality and unique quirks. In the midst of tantrums, naps that never seem to happen, and all the good stuff that comes with family life, the Greens wanted to freeze these moments in time.

Why they chose the University of Texas for their family session

Jake & Jill brought up doing a family session at UT awhile back and we got it scheduled this past fall. Jake and Jill met during their time as students at UT and their life has blossomed into a wonderful story of love and family. Now so many years later and they are revisiting the birthplace of their relationship and showing their kids around the campus.

Why Family Videos Matter Just as Much as Photos

When I first started making videos I asked a few families I knew to let me practice family videography so I could see what it would turn out like. The Green family was one of those practice families. When she booked her session this past fall, I asked if they ever watch the old videos or if the kids liked them or not. (I am always curious what happens to home movies.) This is what Jill (mom) told me: “We re-watched the videos you linked with the girls. Johnnie cried watching it 😭🥹 happy tears. It was so sweet.”

I was floored. This child (who was a little toddler in the old videos) cried happy tears while watching the home movie I made for them years ago. I mean… take that in!

We know how we feel (as adults) when we came across an old video of our kids… maybe a clip of them taking their first wobbly steps or singing their favorite song in that tiny, high-pitched voice, but how it makes the child feel is something we don’t talk about enough.

For Johnnie, it was a moment of connection to her younger self, to her family, to a memory she might not even consciously remember but could feel in her heart. That’s the magic of family films. They don’t just preserve a moment for you… they give your kids a chance to see their own story unfold, to know they were loved, safe, and surrounded by joy in a way photos can’t.

That’s the kind of keepsake that doesn’t just sit in a folder on your desktop. It lives. It gets rewatched. It gets felt. It becomes part of who they are and the stories they tell themselves about their family.

Why You Should Include a Picnic in Your Family Photo Session

I was so excited that Jill wanted to bring some snacks for a picnic during her family’s session. Planning a family photoshoot? Don’t overlook this simple hack for happier kids and smoother vibes: bring a picnic! Seriously. A cozy picnic setup isn’t just adorable for photos (hello, candid snuggles and shared snacks under the trees) it’s also a built-in mood booster. Kids with full bellies = fewer meltdowns. Snacks help them stay grounded, take breaks between shots, and feel like the session is more fun than formal. Bonus: it gives everyone a chance to connect naturally, which means more authentic moments I can catch on camera.

Of course, there are a few things to consider. Sticky fingers might need a quick cleanup, and we’ll want to avoid mess-prone foods or anything the wind can launch into the next zip code. But overall, the pros far outweigh the cons and who doesn’t love turning a photoshoot into a laid-back family adventure?
