A relaxed indoor family session on a rainy Texas afternoon

Photographing the Hutcheson crew felt like being welcomed into something familiar and honest. With four kids, ranging from teen to toddler, there’s no such thing as “quiet,” but there is joy, curiosity, and a whole lot of snack breaks (especially for Lyle). This indoor family session took place on a rainy afternoon in their naturally darker home, which made it all the more cozy and real.

Life with Four Kids, All Under One Roof

Leighann and Cody’s family is full of personality. Emily and Eve, thoughtful, bright, and helpful, anchor the rhythm of the home. Ali’s energy fills every corner, and Lyle, the youngest, keeps everyone on their toes with his expressive little face and love for snacks and Danny Go!

Watching how each sibling instinctively knew how to support one another (Emily helps Ali, Eve helps Lyle) was such a beautiful part of documenting their session. They weren’t performing for the camera, they were just being themselves. That’s the kind of magic I love most.

Why Indoor Sessions Work So Well (Especially in Summer)

Even though this session took place during cooler weather, it’s the perfect example of why indoor family photo sessions work so well, especially in Texas summers when the heat is unbearable. On rainy days or in homes with moodier lighting, I shift how I shoot and lean into the atmosphere. That’s exactly what we did here.

Instead of fighting the light, we embraced it: leaning into cozy corners, soft shadows, and natural interactions. The result? A gallery that feels honest and connected, full of little moments that matter most.

A Session That Felt Like Them

Leighann said her dream photo would show how much fun they have together, and I think we nailed it. This afternoon felt like quiet jokes between sisters, a toddler running the show (as toddlers do), and the family pug, Bean, popping into scenes like he owned the place.

The Hutchesons reminded me that beautiful photos don’t need perfect conditions. Some of the most meaningful stories unfold right at home, where the light isn’t always ideal, the weather doesn’t always cooperate, but the love and laughter are undeniably real. Being in their own space helped the kids relax and be themselves, which is exactly what makes the photos feel so honest and full of life.
