Mini Sessions at the 2008 Tree of the Year

Last year (2023) I had two fun families schedule mini sessions at the massive oak tree behind Central Market in downtown Austin. This tree is so large and made for some fun photos for these kids and their families. There’s also a tank behind it and a playground. You will have to walk past the playground, so be prepared for that or plan to go around. I do think this location is fun though because after your shoot you can grab some food or beverages nearby and let the kids play.

Why choose this location for family photos in Austin?

For one it’s right in the heart of Austin making it pretty convenient to most everyone. It’s also a great incentive for your kids and family. Once your photoshoot is over y’all can hang out at this fun spot and have some snacks and play.

Here’s the address: 608-616 W 38th St, Austin, TX 78705

1. Low hanging sturdy branches

This tree has a gazillion sturdy branches for kids to climb and play on, making it a great location for family photos. Even little kids can play because many go all the way to the ground.

2. The Giant Rock

There is variety here even though it’s a small area. There is a giant rock that is great for sitting poses and to get something a bit different.

3. Benches under the tree

There are a good 2-4 benches in various locations around and under the tree that are great spots to sit for a family photo, like these two cute sisters here.

3. So much more!

There are several other trees and fun spots for kids to run and play. There’s also a giant hill that I know some kids would love to roll down. And I can’t forget the pond! It’s a great spot, but it had just rained and was muddy so we didn’t get anything by it this time.
