This adorable family met up with me in early November 2019 for a windy family photography session at the gorgeous Mueller Lake Park here in the diverse city of Austin, Texas. This park is full of amazing little photo nuggets. There’s the water of course, the pavilion with beautiful columns and vines growing all around, lots of park benches and weeping willow tree! There are a ton more restaurants and fun activities that have popped up in the Mueller area making it a hotspot for family fun. I absolutely love this location. Have you been there? Have any recommendations for areas nearby you like? Of course, the Thinkery is there which is always a fun location with kiddos. My only con for this park is that it gets super busy on weekends and evenings. I highly suggest morning sessions in place of evening sessions. Not just for how busy it gets, but because little kids are usually in the best moods earlier in the morning after a full night’s sleep.
What to bring to your session
I get asked this a lot, so I wanted to go over a few things to remember. If your munchkins are in diapers don’t forget to pack a few diapers. If you have one that’s under 3 years old I highly recommend bringing a clothing backup, just in case. You never know what could happen with little ones. So, it’s best to play it safe and have something even if it’s not exactly the style you want. And lastly, bring a snack and some water for the kiddos! Hungry kids are grumpy kids and there’s not much I can do when their tummy’s are grumbly. Otherwise, when you come to your session, relax. Take some deep breaths, and try to just play with your kids and have fun. I’m a professional and I will capture the love if you bring it to your session. If you’re stressed because you’ve been running around like a maniac all morning it’s normal to feel that way. Just take a step back and breathe. First and foremost, I suggest moms get ready first. Photography sessions are similar to weddings, in that once you’re dressed and ready, momma, the stress will melt away into fun.
